Lab Draw Rules

Every month the Lab runs a members' draw. Entries are earned by contributing — no purchase necessary, ever. Here is exactly how it works.

This month's prizes

One member can win at most one prize per month — second place is drawn from everyone except the first winner, still weighted by entries. Prizes change month to month, so check back.

How entries are earned

Rye whiskey reviews never earn draw entries. They earn points and rank — the fastest path up the ladder — but we keep review-writing and prize odds fully separate, so no one ever has a reason to write a review they don't mean. That separation is a founding rule of the Lab.

When the draw happens

The entry window is the calendar month. On the 1st of the following month the window closes automatically, every member's entries are snapshotted, and the draw is run. Entry counts then reset to zero and a fresh window opens — every month is winnable.

How the winners are picked

The draw is weighted: each entry is one ticket, and winners are selected at random using cryptographic randomness — first prize from all tickets, second prize from everyone except the first winner. More contribution means better odds, but every single entry can win. The full entry snapshot and prize list for each month are archived unchanged, so any draw can be audited after the fact.

Winner verification

Provisional winners are verified by RyeCentral before being announced (a real member account, one account per person, no self-dealing — RyeCentral staff and their households are not eligible). If a winner is ineligible, a replacement is drawn from the same month's snapshot. Confirmed winners are contacted at their membership email.

Eligibility

The draw is open to Lab members — membership is free. You must be of legal drinking age in your place of residence. Where a prize cannot lawfully be delivered, RyeCentral will substitute a prize of equivalent value or, where no lawful substitute exists, the win passes to a redraw.

No purchase necessary. Entries have no cash value and cannot be bought, sold, or transferred. Contribution rewards are never conditioned on rating or sentiment — a one-star recipe review earns the same entries as a five-star one. Reviews that earn rewards are marked as such on the site.
