Free Home Whiskey Tasting Events
Two modes, one app. Solo: pour a bottle, work through the full tasting form, see how you match community consensus. Group: host a blind tasting for friends, score together, reveal at the end. No signup, no app store, free forever.
TL;DR — Why this works
The Quick Take
- Free. No signup, no payment, no email. Just open and run.
- Solo or group. Solo: self-paced full tasting form with community score comparison. Group: hosted blind format, invites by QR code, reveal at the end.
- Mobile-first. Works on every guest's phone simultaneously — one host, many scorers.
- Tracks history. Your favorite bottles ranked across every tasting you host.
- Pairs with our pillar guide for flight design, glassware, and scoresheet templates.
Pick Your Path
Two Ways to Use the App
Solo or with friends — same catalog, same scoring, different vibes.
Solo Tasting
Pick your bottles (labels visible), then walk through the full tasting form for each pour: nose note pills, palate note pills, 8 flavor sliders, price guess, star rating, and free-form notes. At the end, see how your scores compare to community consensus — and post your verified tasting review straight to the product page.
- No guests, no QR codes, no waiting
- Full tasting form on every pour
- Community score comparison at reveal
- Post reviews to ryecentral.com product pages
- Great for palate training and personal notes
Host a Group Tasting
Set up your bottles, invite friends via QR code, and everyone tastes blind — no one knows which pour is which until the reveal. Scores roll up to a live leaderboard, each guest sees their community-consensus delta, and you finish with the big reveal.
- 2–12 guests, all scoring on their phones
- Blind format — bottle identities hidden
- QR code / link invites, no install
- Live leaderboard, prizes, hosting tips
- Great for parties, bachelor nights, and offsites

A home whiskey tasting experience — not a $60-a-head ticket
A good home whiskey tasting beats most paid tasting events for one reason: you pick the bottles. No fixed flight, no guide telling you what you should taste, no rushed 30 seconds per pour. The RyeCentral tasting app turns your living room into a proper in-home whiskey tasting — structured enough to feel like an event, loose enough to actually enjoy.
We built it because the existing options are broken. Blind whiskey tasting kits cost $50–$150 and give you four tiny bottles you didn’t choose. Virtual whisky tasting sessions lock you to a calendar slot. Printed score sheets get wet, lost, or abandoned by round two. This app replaces all of that — free, instant, and designed around how people actually taste with friends.

Home Whiskey Tasting App: FAQ
Is the tasting app really free?
Yes. No credit card, no subscription. Host unlimited events.
Do I need a RyeCentral account?
Yes — hosts sign in with their RyeCentral email. Create one free. Guests you invite don’t need an account.
How many people can join?
Two to twelve is the sweet spot.
Do guests need to download anything?
No. QR/link in any phone browser.
Can I use the app on my own — no guests?
Yes. Solo mode lets you pick your bottles (labels visible), work through the full tasting form for each pour — nose pills, palate pills, 8 flavor sliders, price guess, star rating, free-form notes — and see how your scores compare to community consensus. You can also post your review straight to the bottle’s product page on RyeCentral.com. Group mode adds the hosting layer: QR-code invites, blind format, reveal at the end.
Does the app work for bourbon tastings?
Yes. See Bourbon vs. Rye Tasting.
Can I run a virtual tasting with remote friends?
Yes. Share the QR/link, everyone joins on their own phone, and run reveals on a shared video call.
How many bottles should I pour for a home tasting?
Three to five is the sweet spot — fewer than three makes comparison hard, more than five tires the palate. Pour small: about ½–1 oz of each. For the full flight-building walkthrough see our guide to hosting a rye tasting at home.
What glassware works best for a whiskey tasting?
A Glencairn is ideal — its tulip shape funnels aroma to the nose. No Glencairns? A small wine glass or a snifter works fine. Give every guest the same glass so the comparison stays fair.
What order should I taste the whiskeys in?
Go lightest to boldest: softer, lower-proof and wheated pours first, then high-rye and barrel-proof, with anything peated or smoky last so it doesn’t flatten your palate. Sip water and nibble a plain cracker between pours. In the app, just add the bottles and run the reveal once everyone has scored.
