Todd Leopold of Leopold Bros in Denver had revived the labor-intensive three chamber still — a heavy, oily pre-Prohibition rye style that had all but vanished — and wanted a column-distilled rye to blend against it. He called George Dickel's Nicole Austin, who happened to be quietly developing rye at the Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. in Tennessee. The George Dickel x Leopold Bros collaboration blend is the marriage of those two very different ryes: Leopold's rich, full-bodied Three Chamber rye and Dickel's cleaner, charcoal-mellowed column-still rye.
